Irish Government commits to buying more organic food

The Irish Government has committed to buying more organic food with a target for public sector bodies to spend a minimum of 10% organic food by value under its Green Public Procurement Strategy and Action Plan 2024-2027. A specific focus has been placed on organic sourcing across key product categories including cereals, fresh beef, lamb, pork, poultry, fish, vegetables and dairy products. The new commitment comes in the background of wider efforts in the EU to promote organic consumption in public catering set out in the EU Organic Action Plan. Many countries are heavily invested in the sourcing of organic produce in their public canteens.
